Holy Sites in the Holy Land
(page one)

~ I refer to these pages as of the 'Holy Land' because the photochrom collection itself refers to them that way.  Though that is not what we call the Middle East and areas of North Africa today, as this is a history site, I used the historic term.  Keep in mind that in the hundred+ years since these photographs were taken a lot has changed both geographically, and
in terms of ideological sensibilities.

The Photochrom Photograph collection displayed on these pages is dated between 1890 and 1900 and available from the Library of Congress.  The photochrom pages on historyfish  include pictures of abbeys, cathedrals, and churches, and also castles, city gates, bridges, harbors, and other things as well.

Scroll down for page links to photographs for abbeys, churches & holy sites..

I wish I had time to fill these pages with information about each grotto, tomb, shrine, church and monastery pictured.  But realistically, I just don't.  If you want more information about any of these photographs, just google it.  Post any info in my comments section if you like.

Enjoy!!
